Choosing Paint Colors

Choosing colors for your home can be rather intimidating. With thousands of colors to choose from it is hard to select a color, even if you know generally what you want. When selecting colors for our clients I like to take a color inventory of the rest of the home. You can use a paint deck to match cabinets, countertops, furniture, rugs, and other accessories. Knowing your main colors of your home allows you to more easily coordinate the colors from room to room. Be sure to consider sight lines. If you can see into one room from another, don’t paint those rooms in colors that would clash. Instead, pick colors that work in harmony with each other. Consider accent walls for bold color without going too over the top. Finally, before you paint the walls pick up large samples or paint a sample board with the colors you are considering. Move them around the room and get a feel for the way the colors look in different lighting scenarios. The few dollars you spend on the larger samples is worth it and you will be better able to eliminate the colors that don’t work and will be happier overall with the final look. Still not sure?
